Why is it hard to admit we've been wrong?

Admitting that we're wrong is never an easy thing. But if we think about it, it has its roots in our childhood. Although as kids we were allowed to make more mistakes, we were still punished for some of them. We often have a feeling that not being right makes us stupid. This is because of the education system. Saying something wrong has the risk of being laughed at. The worst part is that some teachers will tell students that they will have no future not knowing some things, which leads us to being paranoid. It seems that pretending to be right can do more good than really saying that you thought the other way.

Why do most people root for the underdog?

In many competitions, people seem to be rooting for the underdog. This is a very common thing and some of us even may be doing it subconsciously. I think that the reason for it is because we empathize with people that seem to be worse at something than the others. We want to give them support to motivate them and help them get better results. For example, when we're watching a football game and see the losing team, it is visible on their faces that they want to give up. To help them, we start rooting, in hope that they will still try and win the game.
